Sophie Castonguay develops performative devices in which she stages the words of spectators. These stagings generally take place in exhibition spaces, in front of and around the works exhibited or in public spaces allowing the elaboration of site-specific narratives. Through the use of narrative modalities, she attempts to create interference in the reception of the work and/or in the perception of the place. Castonguay works questions the relationship between the visible and the decibel, knowing that this relationship is immediately political.

Her work has been shown in several exhibition centers in Quebec (Dazibao, Skol, Praxis, Dare-Dare, SBC, AXENÉO7, Verticale, Vidéographe, Optica), Canada (Fado, Third Space, GNO) and Europe (Hangar in Barcelona, Projektraum54 in Basel, FIAC in Paris). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Art Studies and Practices at the Université du Québec à Montréal and has been teaching at the École des arts visuels de l'UQÀM since 2008.
