Sophie Castonguay

Live Stream Performance on June 19

Zoom is a very interesting new platform in which to perform. As part of Flow - Embody in site, Castonguay wishes to work the collective body with young French-Canadian artists who have been affected by the isolation created by the pandemic. She wants to perform and present her artistic practice through a vocal choir made up of 20 people and explore the possibilities offered by zoom as an intercultural window populated by faces. Castonguay has been interested in delegated performance since 2009. With the delegated performance, the site of the exhibition is more a space of production than of presentation and therefore responds to a need to extract itself from certain conventions of showing art. This shows that "emphasizing the phenomenological immediacy of the living body” (Bishop) already generates a lot of meaningful content, which does not necessarily need to be obscured by the presence of the body of the performer.
