Hi, my name is Lynn (sometimes sun) and I am an interdisciplinary performance artist born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland currently based in Chicago, Illinois. I make work to inspire empathy and engage audiences in deconstructing their preconceptions of amerikan identity and Black culture, while exploring new boundaries of imagination and Black presence. I’ve obtained a BFA in Photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art and Masters of Fine Arts in Performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, while also holding residencies with DCASE Chicago, Recto Verso Studios Quebec City, and Lemon Tree House Centona, Italy. My multi-media and transdisciplinary work dives deep into the intricacies of Black critical theory, existentialism, Love Ethic, restorative practice, community building, and the separations of ego and self. Through performance art I commit to holding space for my communities while fostering environments that allow others to experience not only my vulnerability, but their own, creating a stronger collective consciousness fueled by empathy and understanding. This overall objective is achieved through mentally and physically charged time-based endurance pieces where my own body is pushed and of focus. I aim to change spaces physically and energetically by using installation, video collage, sound, smell, and sometimes more. Repetition, movement, and historical allegory all contribute to my new world, dedicated to taking up space, and honoring identity, bringing you with me.
