WEEK 2

Morning tea/coffee gathering

Thursday June 09, 2022 - 9:30am - 10:00am CT

Carron Little (Scotland/ USA)
This is an opportunity to come and learn about the live stream public performances in Week 3 and engage in a Q&A about the program. We will also be highlighting the partnership with Intellect Books and Actional Poetics - ASH SHE HE, The Performance Actuations of Alastair MacLennan, 1971 - 2020 edited by Sandra Johnston, Cherie Driver & Paula Blair.

Lecture: GESTURE: The materiality of animateness

Thursday June 02, 2022 - 10:00am - 11:30am CT

Paul Couillard (Canada)
Since the very beginnings of my performance art practice, I have been focused on exploring the medium's formal qualities. I understand the essential elements of performance to be time, space, performers' bodies and relationships to audiences, and I have argued that what often defines performance art as distinct from other performing arts practices (dance, theatre, music) is an interest in challenging or testing the established conventions around any or each of these parameters.

Lecture: i miss the land but does the land miss me?

Thursday June 09, 2022 - 10:00am - 11:30am CT

Carali McCall (Canada/ England)
Physical encounters with particular materials and a landscape are one thing – and in a time when we have consciously reached an unprecedented moment in history regarding our relationship with the earth’s environmental state, how do artists construct and reflect on this feeling; of which the notion of the landscape has long provided, and to address the now human effect on the Earth?

Workshop 1a: Histories and Stories, Body and Memory in public space.

Thursday June 02, 2022 - 12noon - 1:30pm CT

Nieves Correa (Spain)
Public space is not just the streets and squares where our parents expressed themselves in demonstrations and festivals or where they met with friends and lovers. The public space now is a virtual space in social networks where everything can happen, an undefined space, a magma of individuality that could be living thousands kilometers away one from each other as is the case of this workshop.

Workshop 4a: Performance on the border of visibility

Thursday June 09, 2022 - 12noon - 1:30pm CT

Frans van Lent (Netherlands)
The unnoticed performance takes place as a private event, embedded in public space. In this line of thinking, performance is similar to any other personally motivated activity in public space.
This workshop is about the 'overflow area' in which the private manifests (and hides) in the public.

Workshop 1b: Histories and Stories, Body and Memory in public space.

Thursday June 02, 2022 - 2:00pm - 3:30pm CT

Nieves Correa (Spain)
But the other space, now a meaningless public space, the physical public space, is still full of Histories and Stories of the past. Most of them stories of anonymous people who lived, loved, and died in those places. That physical public space is made of multiple layers of lives, is a place haunted by our own ghosts and the memory.

Workshop 4b: Performance on the border of visibility

Thursday June 09, 2022 - 2:00pm - 3:30pm CT

Frans van Lent (Netherlands)
The unnoticed performance takes place as a private event, embedded in public space. In this line of thinking, performance is similar to any other personally motivated activity in public space.

Workshop 2a: Rites of Passage

Friday June 03, 2022 - 10:00am - 11:30am CT

Dimple B Shah (Bangalore, India)
This practice-based workshop in four sessions on Friday and Saturday each week will share a process of rituals to connect points of our self-body mind and the environment around us. The workshop will facilitate connecting Body, Mind, with Nature.

Lecture: What motivates you to stop?

Thursday June 09, 2022 - 4:00pm - 5:30pm CT

Victoria Stanton (Canada)
Does the phrase simply imply “not working?” (As in, “if I’m not working I’m doing nothing.”) Is it a form of resistance? Is it an assertion of Freedom? Is it a state of “pure being?” Is it necessary for our wellness? Pushing opposite impulses together into one pronouncement, Doing Nothing is clearly paradoxical – hence nearly impossible to do.

Workshop 3a: Voice Action Presence

Friday June 03, 2022 - 12noon - 1:30pm CT

James King (N. Ireland)
This workshop in four sessions will draw extensively upon the elements of Action Theater that have a bearing upon performance art and will include vocal word play and experimentation.

Lecture: Performing & Confinement

Friday June 03, 2022 - 2:00pm - 3:30pm CT

Hector Canonge (U.S.)
This lecture and performance take as a point of departure the embodiment of isolation and the disembodiment of physical connection with other bodies and with the territory, the space where a performance artist delivers his/her actions and establishes a presence.

Sandra Johnston, Alastair MacLennan & Brian Patterson (Belfast, N. Ireland)

The panel will discuss the process of developing this publication over a 4 year period, and the intricacies of responding to MacLennan's profoundly temporal practice through its documentation, artifacts, and especially the acts of witnessing that underpin each chapter.

Workshop 1c: Histories and Stories, Body and Memory in public space.

Saturday June 04, 2022 - 12noon - 1:30am CT

Nieves Correa (Spain)

Lecture: Moving Weirdly: Research for the City of Dreams

Saturday June 04, 2022 - 4:00pm - 5:30pm CT

lo bil (Canada)
For the Flow Symposium, I will be putting my research map, COMPASS, into solo practice within the context of the city as an ensemble of sensate conditions and imagistic activations. I navigate my city by “Moving Weirdly” for an hour every day for a week, travelling to a selection of sites, mapping my internal navigation system onto the built environment through speech, movement, and object animation; looking for new kinds of resources and relationships; noticing how tools relate to environments; and, drawing any insights about how to decompose and re-route my perception.

Lecture: A visual lecture with a participative tele-portal element.

Sunday June 05, 2022- 10:00am - 11:30pm CT

Yvette Teeuwen (Netherlands)
In this presentation-dialogue, I would like to give an inside in my art performances from the past 2 (Pandemic) years supplemented with key-works I made in the period before. I would like to share lots of visual materials like performance registrations, video performances, performative self-portraits, photos, video stills and my so-called (sketchy) videotography.

Frans van Lent (Netherlands)
The unnoticed performance takes place as a private event, embedded in public space. In this line of thinking, performance is similar to any other personally motivated activity in public space.
This workshop is about the 'overflow area' in which the private manifests (and hides) in the public.

Bernadette Hopkins (Ireland)
My presentation will focus on and show the interweaving of my art practice through the lens of collaborative work and the processes I bring to my work as an activist. I am interested in opening ideas and discussion around the finite reserve the planet contains and our unending human demands and over consumption.

Workshop 3c: Voice Action Presence

Lecture: Perception of Reality

Saturday June 11, 2022 - 2:00pm - 3:30pm CT

Jolanda Jansen (Netherlands)
In the performance lecture I want to play with reality by using mirroring and reflection to show the conflictive, sometimes confusing representation of an image 'reality'. The perception of this image and the translation from this image into a presentation by de-contextualizing and framing through media with its own limitations, …. into blur.

Lecture: ΚΥΤΤΑΡΟ/ THE CELL

Sunday June 12, 2022 - 10:00am - 11:30pm CT

Eleni Kolliopoulou (Greece)
I would like to share the creation process of a participatory public art performance that I organized in May 2021 in Athens. The performance took place during 2nd Lycabetus Festival, THE 2 HILLS. It entailed the direct embodiment of Gilles Deleuze concept of Body without organs in what concerns the absence of hierarchy the open-ended potentialities and a constantly mobile action which expands in the site.

Workshop 3d: Voice Action Presence

Lecture: Pace Investigations No. 12

Sunday June 12, 2022 - 4:00pm - 5:30pm CT

Sandrine Schaefer (USA)
Pace Investigations is an ongoing series that asks how one copes with acceleration and deceleration while enduring mediated time, shared space, and other external forces. Each iteration of Pace Investigations is new. The actions and materials of the performance are site-specific and the duration of the performance is precisely staggered. The same performance repeats multiple times consecutively, daily, or seasonally. Each time the performance repeats, its duration either loses or gains time.
