An Artist Presentation
I would like to share the creation process of a participatory public art performance that I organized in May 2021 in Athens. The performance took place during 2nd Lycabetus Festival, THE 2 HILLS. It entailed the direct embodiment of Gilles Deleuze concept of Body without organs in what concerns the absence of hierarchy the open-ended potentialities and a constantly mobile action which expands in the site.
THE CELL consisted of a simple set of guidance leading to an action while being blindfolded and a hula hoop. Participants have been directly engaged to the action as co-creators. I find a deep connection between my practice and the concept of Happenings coined by Allan Kaprow in the 60s. During the presentation I will describe the action and share with you part of the photographic documentation.
This project is part of my ongoing research on the bond of the body with its environment initiated by my practice-based PhD research. My practice is informed by notions of Butoh-body entailing and embracing the receptivity and porosity of the body in-the-world.
