My proposal is a direct exchange within an online talk and round table format centered around the “Same But different (Equinox)” project, which occurs annually in March and September. This intercultural and supranational project and symbol is celebrated through group performances in public spaces by performance artists around the world. “Same but Different” seeks to initiate a global discourse on public space as a social and political sphere essential for democratic life and as a site of physical design. It draws inspiration from the political and moral philosophy of Hannah Arendt, who emphasized the importance of the urban space as a site for citizens to negotiate, mediate, and collectively act for the common good. Through contemporary performative art practice in public spaces, it aims to activate temporary communities and expand the field of performative practice. This idea is generally questioning public being and public space in light of the psychological and economic "impact" of modern society. Since a symposium in Belfast in 2017, artists worldwide have been exploring the interconnected roles of the performative collective and the citizen in shaping and transforming public space. “Same but Different” aims to further this exploration by facilitating a lively exchange of experiences on social networks and initiating public discussions about the conditions of urban spaces in different countries. Now, I want to invite all participating groups and artists in my proposed round table discussion to have the opportunity to showcase their experiences and ideas on how “Same but Different” changed their way of working together and exchange about each condition of public spaces in different countries, contributing to a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of urban life in our globalized world. So for Flow • embody in site, 2023 I will talk and introduce the “Same but Different (Equinox)” Project first and then invite artists from around the world to join not only in celebrating the equinox through group performances in public spaces, but rather participate in the online exchange to explore and share their perspectives on public space and the performative practice.
