Brian Patterson co-established Bbeyond in 2001 to promote performance art in Northern Ireland and is currently its project coordinator. Prior to art college he worked as a lab technician for ten years in the water and effluent treatment industry. His interest in performance art was a slow and gradual one, witnessing performance art for the first time, directly, in 1991 (Available Resources). He worked with Catalyst Arts (1996–98) and Flaxart Studios (1998–2003) organising the International Residency Programme. In 2001 Patterson was one of the artists involved in the Routes project, set up to promote the work of the unions in keeping sectarianism out of the workplace in Northern Ireland. In May 2005 he made his first performance in Piotrkow Trybunalski, Poland, and has performed nationally and internationally since then. His interest in performance has gravitated towards the improvised group performance, particularly with Bbeyond. He has edited and co-edited two pani publications for Bbeyond, issue nos 1+2, (Quebec & Helsinki Exchanges +) and no. 3 (i am/jestem).
